7A* ODEP rating for the cementless A2^® short stem

The British Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) has awarded the cementless A2^® short stem (Types B and G) a 7A* rating. This highest possible rating—based on seven years of clinical performance—demonstrates that the implant consistently delivers convincing clinical results over a medium-term follow-up period. The rating is issued by an independent committee based on validated data and is designed to assist users in comparing and selecting safe implants.

What does the 7A* rating signify?

The number in the rating indicates the duration of follow-up for which data is available and has been evaluated; for the cementless A2^® short stem, this is seven years. The A* rating represents the highest possible ODEP category. Very strict criteria apply to the 7A* rating: for instance, a follow-up cohort of at least 350 patients is required, showing a maximum revision rate of ≤3.6%. For the A2^® short stem, the probability of failure after seven years is 2.7%, placing it well below the required threshold (Source: EPRD Annual Report 2024).

Independent assessment for quality and comparability
