27 Oct Periprosthetic infections: Tracing the influence of stem design
Newsletter September 22, 2025
Welcome!
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear customers and interested parties,
With a new edition of our ARTIQO Newsletter, we are kicking off autumn and once again have some exciting topics in store for you.
First, we will address the question of what influence the stem design might have on infections. Dr. Sebastian Meller from Berlin will present study results in which the A2® short stem plays a role. Electronic user manuals (eIFUs) are now available for our ARTIQO products. You can find out more about them and their advantages in the newsletter. Then we turn our attention to Cologne, where a change of chief physician has just taken place at the Eduardus Hospital. We spoke with Dr. Thorsten Hillmann and Dr. Nikolaus Szöke, two long-time supporters of the A2® short shaft, about continuity and change. Those who follow us on LinkedIn know that we regularly present real-world cases kindly provided by our customers, demonstrating the full range of applications for the A2® short shaft. This case collection is now also available on our website.
“` We hope you find this book an engaging read and enjoy it!
Sincerely, Ulrich Bücken

Periprosthetic Infections: Tracing the Influence of Stem Design
What influence does implant design have on the course of infection? Following initial findings based on EPRD registry data [1], a prospective, randomized study by Dr. Sebastian Meller, Charité University Hospital in Berlin, which has not yet been published, now delves deeper into this topic.
eIFU since August 2025
Instructions for Use: Digital and Always Up-to-Date
Since August 2025, we have been switching to digital instructions for our ARTIQO manufacturer products: Instead of the previous printed instructions for use inside the carton, the information is now always available digitally as an electronic instruction manual (eIFU). For the A2® hip stem system, the 4motion® knee system, and our ceramic ball heads (ISO 6474-2), you can access the latest version either via our website (www.artiqo.de/downloads/ifu/) or via the QR code on the product packaging.
A2® Short Shaft Partners
Change of Leadership at Cologne’s Eduardus Hospital
Both are long-time partners of the A2® Short Shaft. Dr. Thorsten Hillmann assumed the role of Chief Physician at Cologne’s Eduardus Hospital on July 1, 2025. Dr. Nikolaus Szöke stepped down as Chief Physician and will remain with the hospital as a Senior Consultant. We spoke with them both.
