11 Oct The ratio between standard and short shafts will be reversed
Newsletter October 11, 2024
Welcome!
Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear customers and interested parties,
In this edition of our newsletter we focus primarily on joint replacements for older patients. In many ways this presents challenges.
Prof. Dr. Johanneszeichen, Minden, has been caring for older patients for many years. We talked to him about the special features and what role short-stem care could play in elderly patients in the future.
We are providing you with the first short-term results from a prospective observational study cemented A2® short shaft.
And last but not least, there is news about the MRI suitability of our products. This is also a topic that becomes more and more important with increasing age and increasing multimorbidity.
As always, we hope you enjoy reading!
Yours, Ulrich Bücken

“The relationship between standard and short shafts will be reversed.”
Old patients are a challenge for endoprosthetics in many ways, be it the perioperative management of concomitant diseases or the follow-up of the outcome in old patients within the framework of studies. Now there is a new option with the cemented A2® short stem that could be relevant for older patients.
Prof. Dr. Johanneszeichen, director of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the Johannes Wesling Clinic in Minden, has been involved in the care of older patients for many years. He has a clear vision of what role short stem care could play for elderly patients in the future.
First short-term results from a prospective observational study on the cemented A2® short stem
The cemented version of the A2® short shaft has been available since the beginning of 2021. This raises the question: How does it perform in practice? Dr. Bertram Regenbrecht, Lilienthal, and his team have now published their first short-term experiences with the shaft – with a focus on the importance of cementing techniques.
MRI safety information now available!
As patients age, the prevalence of cancer, musculoskeletal or neurodegenerative diseases increases. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is often necessary, for which reliable information on the MRI suitability of joint implants is essential.
ARTIQO has therefore tested the MRI suitability of the A2® short shaft system and the 4-motion® knee system and now offers well-founded and precise statements for radiologists and patients.
